President: It is important for Georgia to have good relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia

Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili spoke about the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia during a meeting with the Pope.

The local Bureau of Report informs that Zurabishvili said this in an interview with the Italian publication Agenzia Nova Srl.

According to her, for the first time in modern history, Georgia continued its traditions. It acted as a mediator between Azerbaijan and Armenia: "We hope that the current situation in Armenia will improve, especially after the snap elections in the country."

Zurabishvili noted when the war broke out in autumn 2020, Georgia offered the leaders of both countries to visit Tbilisi and hold a dialogue: "We hoped that we would continue to play a positive role in the future. Georgia needs to have good relations with both countries. If this conflict escalated, it would be a tragedy. Georgia wants to create a platform for dialogue and stability. We create conditions for the coexistence of different religions and ethnic groups. There is no other way for Georgia to survive and develop."
