Azerbaijan is a reliable geopolitical player in the South Caucasus region, which Russia can rely on, with whom it can come to an agreement and be confident in the implementation of the agreements reached, political scientist Andrei Petrov said, commenting on the visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Baku, the Russian bureau of Report informs.
According to the expert, Azerbaijan has maintained positive relations with Russia for many years: "Baku is interested in developing allied relations with Moscow, now this is fundamentally important. This is why President Putin made a state visit to Baku."
Petrov noted that the visit of the Russian president to Azerbaijan, being an extraordinary phenomenon in the latest Russian foreign policy, since the president, as a rule, prefers to remain within Russia, indicates the highest level of Russian-Azerbaijani relations and the interest of Moscow and personally Vladimir Putin in raising these relations to a qualitatively new level.
The expert believes that, despite some tension in relations with Armenia, Russia can assist in signing a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan.
