Maduro: We transfer chairmanship of the Non-Aligned Movement to Azerbaijan

Venezuela attaches great importance to the Non-Aligned Movement and the “Bandung Principles”.

Report informs that Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro made the due statement at the opening of the XVIII Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement in Baku.

"We were active during our chairmanship. We set three goals. It is necessary to ensure greater unity and solidarity between the members of the organization. We have fulfilled all our obligations and transfer the chairmanship to Azerbaijan," he said.

He also expressed gratitude to the people and government of Azerbaijan for their hospitality.

"It is an honor for me to attend the summit. This is a country with which we have close relations. Our country presided over the organization, in a very difficult and turbulent period, when challenges faced our countries, " said Maduro.

He also expressed gratitude to the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement for solidarity during the Venezuelan presidency of the organization.

"80% of the oil and gas falls on the countries of the Non-Aligned Movement. One third of the earth’s territory and 50% of the world's population. How can one try to put pressure on us under such circumstances?! We want to have a multipolar world and we will fight for it. This is the foundation of our Movement. We must not accept gross violation of international law," the President of Venezuela said.

Notably, during the summit, the chairmanship in the organization of the Non-Aligned Movement will pass to Azerbaijan for three years.
