Hikmat Hajiyev: UN support in demining significant for Azerbaijan

The support of the UN in the issue of demining the liberated territories is very important for Azerbaijan, Assistant of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Head of Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmat Hajiyev said at a panel discussion at an event in Shusha dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the partnership between Azerbaijan and the UN, Report informs.

“We have similar ideas, we want the UN to become more familiar with the process of restoring the territories and make its contribution. To restore them, we need the help of the international community, as well as the help of donors,” Hajiyev said.

He highlighted the problem of demining, adding that UN support in this matter is very significant for Azerbaijan.

Hajiyev stated that during today’s event, priority issues of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN were discussed and suggested holding such meetings in Shusha annually.

UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva, in turn, welcomed the proposal of the assistant to the president of Azerbaijan to hold regular meetings in a similar format.

She noted that during the event in Shusha, the main challenges in the post-pandemic period and ways to resolve them were discussed.

“We appreciate Azerbaijan's contribution to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and are ready to continue the much-needed dialogue,” Andreeva added.
