Head of Ukrainian delegation: I think Armenians behavior in PACE a pressure on me

Kyiv. 7 February. REPORT.AZ/ People's Deputy of Ukraine, Head of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Committee on Culture, Science, Education and Media, Volodymyr Ariev has commented on pressure by the Armenian delegation to PACE on him in regard with his stand on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

V. Ariev told Ukrainian Bureau of Report News Agency, the pressure was not in the framework of the PACE standards.

"After they exert pressure on me, my response was quite tough. Then I received an offer from our ambassador to PACE given by the Armenian side to stop "exchange of pleasantries". And I agreed. I think the conflict must be stopped. Personal pressure on the speaker is not welcomed, even if the delegation did not agree with his stand. For the moment, the issue is over. I think that the Armenian delegation understood the PACE is not for such behavior", V.Ariev said.

Regarding the pressure by the Armenians using information about his Azerbaijani ancestors, V.Ariev said he believes it is persecution on ethnic grounds.
