The German Embassy in Azerbaijan will be halting the visa issuance and consular services from March 19 until April 15, 2020 amid the threat of coronavirus in the country, the Embassy shared on its Facebook account.

The new coronavirus outbreak first emerged in late December 2019 in Wuhan, the most populous city in Central China. The 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), officially named as Covid-19 by the WHO, has spread to 176 countries so far. The number of infected people has hit 220,000. So far, the infection claimed 8,981 lives.

On March 11, the WHO declared COVID-19 a pandemic.
