Expert: Armenia’s territorial claims to Azerbaijan bring its political leadership to dead end

The inability of Armenia and the forces that patronize it to renounce territorial claims against Azerbaijan has brought the military-political leadership of this state to a dead end, Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science, Associate Professor at the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Nasrin Suleymanova told Report.

“On the one hand, Armenia declares its interest in continuing the negotiation process, on the other hand, it still does not refuse to support the Karabakh separatists, who are amassing armed equipment,” she said.

According to the expert, recent anti-Russian statements not only by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, but also by other representatives of the political leadership of Armenia, have led relations with Russia to a state of particular tension.

“This can also be confirmed by joint exercises with the US military, which will last until the end of September. Unable to get support from the Collective Security Organization (CSTO) for his illegal requests to use the forces of this organization against Azerbaijan, the Prime Minister is openly leaning towards the West," Suleymanova added.

According to the associate professor, this will lead to a loss of trust on the part of Armenia’s traditional ally Russia, as well as Iran.
