Baku. 7 March. REPORT.AZ/ Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received Russian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Azerbaijan Mikhail Bocharnikov on March 7.

Report informs citing the press service of the Foreign Ministry that the meeting took place at the request of the opposite side.

The sides exchanged views on several issues of bilateral cooperation on agenda, including the development of cooperation in economic, trade, cultural, humanitarian and other spheres, as well as continuation of successful cooperation in multilateral formats.

Ambassador Bocharnikov has instructed Minister Elmar Mammadyarov to attend the next meeting of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers scheduled for April 5 in Moscow.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov thanked for his invitation. He underlined the strategic nature of the existing relations between Azerbaijan and Russia and stressed the role of the Russian Federation as one of the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group in the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, adding that the participation of Russian state officials in the next meeting of Russia-Armenia Lazarev Club in Moscow on March 5-6, which was held with participation of representatives of the so-called regime in the occupied territories, caused protest from Azerbaijani party.

The minister also conveyed our concern about the invitation of representatives of the so-called regime to the first meeting of the club held in Yerevan at the end of last year and the provocative statements against the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan voiced at that meeting. It was pointed out that such cases contradict the normative legal framework defining the basis of the Azerbaijani-Russian bilateral relations, as well as Russia's mediator role.

During the conversation, the sides also exchanged views on the processes taking place in the region and in the world and other issues of mutual interest.
