Economic Cooperation Organization summit to be held today

Today, the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) summit will be held in a video conference format with Azerbaijan's participation.

Report informs that the heads of state and government of the member states will attend the event.

President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Ersin Tatar, will also join the conference as the head of an observer country.

The ECO, as an intergovernmental organization, was established in 1985 to strengthen economic, technical, and cultural cooperation between Turkey, Iran, and Pakistan. It is considered a successor to the Organization for Regional Cooperation and Development, which operated in 1964-1979. On November 28, 1992, seven countries - Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan - entered the ECO; currently, it has ten member countries. The day of the expansion of the ECO is marked in the organization's calendar as ECO Day.
