Baku. 27 December. REPORT.AZ/ "The opening of a diplomatic mission in Azerbaijan will give Chile a greater representation in a region of paramount importance because of its natural resources, geographical location and demographic potential. This is surely an important milestone in Chilean foreign policy," Chile's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The report notes that Azerbaijan is a major economic player in the Caucasus region because of its large reserves of oil and natural gas.
"The opening of a diplomatic mission in Baku is connected with the commitment of President Sebastián Piñera to his former government and will allow expanding trade, investment, cooperation and political dialogue between both countries," the Chilean Foreign Ministry said.
It is noted that the Chilean representative office in Azerbaijan will be headed by temporary attorney Gabriel Hara Maldonado.
Notably, he has already arrived in Baku and held meetings at the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.
