Azerbaijani ruling party: Initiative on imposing sanction on Azerbaijani officials aims to undermine relations between two countries

Baku. 8 September. REPORT.AZ/ "There are reports that discussions will be held in the US Senate on imposing sanctions on Azerbaijani officials. True, there was such an initiative. These discussions may or may not be held. I do not believe that such a decision will be taken".

Member of the Azerbaijani-US interparliamentary relations working group, deputy executive secretary of ruling New Azerbaijan Party (NAP) Siyavush Novruzov told Report.

Commenting on reports regarding the decision at the US Senate Foreign Operations and Budget Committee to impose sanctions on Azerbaijani officials, he said that the claims are not based on fact: "This is just another provocation of Armenian lobby and politicians serving them against Azerbaijan. Soros Foundation and its leader are fraudulent against Azerbaijan. All this is related to the development of Azerbaijan. At present, social and political stability ensured in the country. If you remember, during the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games in Baku, I said that there could be provocations against Azerbaijan in the future. Because representatives of 53 Islamic states gathered in Azerbaijan. It has demonstrated that Islam is not a religion of terror and provocation, but a religion of peace and friendship. Azerbaijan gave a message to the world. Great Islamic states could also undertake this.

There are Islamic states with natural resources, but the President of Azerbaijan demonstrated Islamic solidarity with courageous policy and steps and declared it to the world. It is a matter contrary to the interests of the West, US and other states. In their societies, they describe Islam as a religion of terrorism, they fight against the Islamic countries under guise of "fight against terrorism" and try to occupy their territories. We must take into account all these to prevent their sabotages in different ways".

The NAP official stressed they were trying to undermine the relations between the two countries at the initiative of imposing sanctions on Azerbaijani officials: "Such provocations have also happened in Russia and they attempted to worsen relations between Russia and Azerbaijan. Annulment of registration of the All-Russian Azerbaijanis Congress by the Russian Ministry of Justice is an example of it. This is the steps taken by separate forces to undermine Azerbaijani-Russian relations. Such provocations occur everywhere".

S.Novruzov said that the information spread in foreign media outlets regarding the Azerbaijani government, is false: "Any newspaper, television channel, NGO spread false information without familiarizing with other side's stand. They should be asked whether they have conducted investigation. Do they consider themselves an investigation body? They publish articles without any source. Those articles don't introduce the Azerbaijani government's stand. If they are unbiased, they should get stands of both sides and create conditions for the opposing side. Articles regarding the Azerbaijani government are false".
