Despite the UN demands, Armenia refuses to take responsibility for the result of the aggression, Tofig Musayev, Deputy Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN, said at a seminar organized by the Center for the Analysis of International Relations, "War crimes against Azerbaijan", held in a hybrid format.
He recalled that hundreds of civilians were killed during the occupation of Khojaly: "Such tragedies have happened several times. Elderly people, children, and women were killed, and many people were taken hostage as a result of Armenian aggression. Some of the hostages were later killed, and some lost their health."
Musayev said that Armenians changed Azerbaijani toponyms to Armenian names and looted national treasures: "Most villages and cities were destroyed. Armenia violated international laws, as well as the provisions of the Hague and Geneva Conventions. Countries that committed such serious war crimes must pay compensation. Azerbaijan appealed to the European Court of Human Rights and the International Court of Justice in this regard."
He emphasized that 'Armenia is preventing post-conflict humanitarian efforts, including the return of people to their homelands'.
"Azerbaijan tried to draw the attention of the international community to such moments from the first days of the conflict. International experts have conducted a serious legal analysis. Those analyzes were published and distributed in 2009-2019. Azerbaijan will continue its efforts and will try to bring Armenia to responsibility," he said.
