Azerbaijani flag raised in Toronto 

The National Flag of Azerbaijan was raised in Toronto City Hall, Canada, on the occasion of May 28—Independence Day, Report informs.

The ceremony organized by the Network of Azerbaijani Canadians (NAC) and the Azerbaijani community living in Toronto was attended by the Canadian MPs, diplomats, senators, and representatives of the communities of friendly and brotherly countries.

The Azerbaijani flag was raised under the sounds of the national anthem of Azerbaijan, performed by the students of the Azerbaijani Language School operating in Canada.

Speaking at the ceremony, Anar Jahangirli, the chairman of the Board of Network of Azerbaijani Canadians, gave detailed information to the guests about the history of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first secular democratic state in the Muslim East, on May 28, 1918.

Rob Oliphant, a Member of the House of Commons of Canada, made a speech at the event. He congratulated Azerbaijanis on this historical day and conveyed the greetings of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly to the guests.

Anthony Furey, Toronto's mayoral candidate, also spoke at the event. He said he is proud to witness the historical day of the Azerbaijani community.
