Ulviyya Najafova, coordinator for Gothenburg of the Coordination Council of Azerbaijanis in Sweden and head of the Azerbaijan Karabakh Center, has issued a statement rejecting claims related to the events of April 24, Report informs.
The statement said claims by certain groups regarding the events, often referred to as the "Armenian genocide," were viewed as a misrepresentation of historical realities and an attempt to use history for political purposes.
Najafova said such approaches conflicted with the principles of objective and impartial historical inquiry and could undermine efforts to build trust in the region.
She noted that historical issues should be assessed strictly through international law, scholarly research and archival evidence. According to the statement, presenting such matters in a politicized or one-sided manner does not contribute to meaningful or constructive dialogue.
The statement said Azerbaijan consistently supports a balanced and fact-based examination of historical events based on mutual respect and international legal standards.
Najafova added that using historical grievances as political instruments harmed the prospects for lasting peace and regional cooperation.
She called on all stakeholders to approach historical issues without bias, rely on evidence-based discussion and contribute to strengthening peace, stability and mutual understanding in the region.
