Azerbaijani, Czech foreign ministries hold regular political consultations

Baku has hosted regular political consultations between the foreign ministries of Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic, Report informs referring to the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry.

From the Azerbaijani side, the delegation was headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov, and the Czech delegation was led by Jaroslav Kurfürst, Director General for European Issues of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.

The sides discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral and multilateral relations between the countries, including political, economic, trade, humanitarian issues, as well as cooperation within international organizations.

Deputy Minister Khalafov noted that 30 years passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2023, and over the years, the relations of effective cooperation have grown to the level of strategic partnership. He added that high-level political dialogue, exchange of official visits, as well as inter-parliamentary cooperation, play an important role in this process.

He informed about the transport and communication projects implemented in the region on the initiative and with the participation of Azerbaijan, and stressed the wide opportunities for cooperation in these areas.

Khalafov informed the other side in detail about the new realities that have developed in the region in the post-conflict period, about the restoration and construction work carried out in the Azerbaijani territories liberated from occupation.

Informing the other side about Azerbaijan’s initiatives to normalize relations with Armenia, promote the peace agenda, delimit the state border, open communications, he also noted that the provocations committed by Armenia, in particular the failure to fulfill the commitments arising from the tripartite statement, pose a threat to peace and tranquility in the region.

He expressed satisfaction with the current level of bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic and noted that, based on the relevant joint statement signed in 2015, relations have reached the level of strategic partnership. He stressed that the Czech Republic constantly supports the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and emphasizes the importance of establishing lasting peace and stability in the region. He noted that on March 3 this year, a productive meeting of the Azerbaijan-Czech intergovernmental commission was held in Prague, which contributed to the development of economic cooperation between the two countries.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on other issues of regional and international security of mutual interest.
