Azerbaijan Street opens in Istanbul

The opening of the Azerbaijan Street took place in Sariyer district, one of Istanbul’s historical and central districts, the Turkish bureau of Report informs.

Azerbaijan’s Consul General in Istanbul Narmina Mustafayeva, Chairman of Sariyer municipality Şukru Genc, the head of the Istanbul Buyuksehir municipality, and representatives of the public, attended the event.

The guests took a commemorative photo at the poster ‘Welcome to the Azerbaijan Street!’ installed at the entrance to the street, decorated with the flags of Azerbaijan and Turkey.

Mustafayeva said that the name of Cendere Street in Sariyer district on June 13 last year was changed to ‘Azerbaijan’ at the Consulate General’s initiative and the decision of the assembly of the Sariyer district municipality.

"This decision is another clear evidence of strengthening fraternal ties between the two countries which have supported each other throughout history," she noted.

Genc stressed that he is proud that he signed a decision perpetuating the word ‘Azerbaijan’ on the longest, widest, and most historic street of Istanbul, which is visited by thousands of tourists every year.

"The Azerbaijan Street will continue to demonstrate to the world the inviolability of our friendship and brotherhood," he said.

The park, named after the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, where his monument is erected, is also located on the territory of Sariyer district’s municipality. On the initiative of Azerbaijan’s Consulate General in Istanbul, the dates of birth and death of the national leader were included in the calendar of protocol events of the Sariyer district municipality.
