Azerbaijan, Qatar keen on developing economic ties

Azerbaijan and Qatar enjoy successful cooperation within the international and regional organizations, Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammad-Guliyev said in an interview with the Qatar-based newspaper The Peninsula.

"Within the framework of international organizations, particularly in the UN and OIC, Qatar stands by Azerbaijan in the adoption of the resolutions that demand the liberation of Azerbaijani territories, which are still held under Armenian occupation. All these factors indicate that the political and economic relations between the two countries are thriving and that the countries have laid the foundation for deeper cooperation in the future," he said.

Mammadguliyev noted significant progress in tourism and voiced confidence that this positive trend will continue.

"Recent years have seen a dramatic increase in the number of tourists traveling to Azerbaijan. An 11 percent growth was recorded in the past ten months," the Deputy Minister said. He added that the increase in October was 25% over the same month of the previous year.

"I believe that at the next stage, we need to pay more attention to economic cooperation. So far, our trade falls short of our expectations. Therefore, it is necessary to take additional steps to increase turnover. I believe that the intergovernmental commission will also take important steps in this direction and study issues related to mutual investment. In other words, there are excellent conditions for the comprehensive development of our ties."
