Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Philip Reeker, Report informs citing the Foreign Ministry of Azerbaijan.
On welcoming the guest, Bayramov stressed the strategic nature of the partnership between Azerbaijan and the United States, noting the positive influence of mutual visits on the development of these ties.
US official Philip Reeker said that Azerbaijan is a strong partner, and the United States attaches great importance to bilateral relations.
He recalled with satisfaction the meeting with the Azerbaijani President and hailed the agreement that ended military operations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. However, he expressed concern over the recent developments in the region, including tensions at the border checkpoint. He also condoled the death of two journalists and an official as a result of a landmine explosion. Reeker expressed the US desire to assist in reducing tension.
Minister Bayramov said Azerbaijan is not interested in aggravating the case. He informed the guest about the post-conflict situation in the region, steps taken to implement the trilateral statement, Armenia's irresponsible attitude, its failure to provide the map of minefields, and other matters. The sides discussed a range of issues on the agenda of bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest.
