Azerbaijan backs Türkiye's implementation-focused COP31 agenda

Azerbaijan stands with Türkiye in efforts to make COP31 a strong and credible "Implementation COP," Mukhtar Babayev, Azerbaijan's Presidential Representative on Climate Issues, said in a post on X, Report informs.

Babayev said he participated in the Istanbul Climate Finance Summit and a series of high-level events and discussions focused on climate finance, implementation and adaptation.

He noted that the discussions addressed the need to close the growing gap between climate ambition and the means of implementation, mobilize finance at scale and strengthen resilience as climate impacts become increasingly severe.

According to Babayev, building on the landmark COP29 outcomes in Baku and the Baku to Belém Roadmap toward $1.3 trillion, presented at COP30 in Belém, the focus must now be on turning commitments into real financial flows and practical implementation.

Looking ahead to COP31 in Antalya, he welcomed Türkiye's strong focus on implementation and the leadership of Turkish Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Minister Murat Kurum in advancing this agenda.

Babayev stressed that Azerbaijan supports Türkiye in making COP31 a strong and credible "Implementation COP."
