Austrian minister: EU ready to do everything possible to build confidence in South Caucasus

The wounds inflicted during the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict are still open, they haven’t healed yet, but they need to be treated. It is a good sign that all parties understand that they need to heal these wounds, and they need partners for this process. The EU is ready to do everything possible for this, Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg said at a press conference in Tbilisi June 26, Report informs.

The EU had very intensive negotiations with Azerbaijan and Armenia. The goal was to define what steps can be taken to build trust. This visit confirmed that trust is in most demand in the region, the foreign minister said.

He noted the important role of Georgia and the prime minister of this country in this matter. Schallenberg said that the prime minister of Georgia played an important role in the transfer of the servicemen by Azerbaijan to the Armenian side and the transfer of the map of the mined territories in Aghdam district by the Armenian side to Azerbaijan.

This trilateral cooperation is beneficial to all partners. The EU strongly supports this and is ready to participate in the dialogue in the ‘3+1’ format, said the Austrian minister.
