Demand for housing continues to outpace supply, and inequality is deepening both within and between cities, Anar Guliyev, chairman of the State Committee for Urban Development and Architecture of Azerbaijan, said at a high-level meeting of the Baku Continuity Coalition on Urban Climate Action and Sustainable Urbanization at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.
According to him, decisions made or postponed in the coming years will determine the trajectory of urban development for decades to come.
Guliyev noted that cities around the world are simultaneously facing increasing pressure on multiple fronts, including the intensifying impacts of climate change.
"Gathering here today, at WUF13, is in itself a statement of intent. This is the first time that coalition members are meeting on the forum platform. This is not a ceremonial moment, but a practical step aimed at continuing our joint work and sharing best practices and successful experiences. This demonstrates that the process initiated at COP29 is continuing and evolving, strengthening its position in the institutions and mechanisms of the future. This demonstrates that the commitments made during the climate negotiations are reflected in urban planning, housing policy, and local budgets," he emphasized.
