Chelsea target Gianluigi Donnarumma transfer from AC Milan to replace flop Kepa

Chelsea is discussing signing AC Milan sensation Gianluigi Donnarumma in part-exchange for Kepa Arrizabalaga, Football Insider understands.

The Premier League big spenders have turned their attention to the Italy international, 21, searching for a new goalkeeper, as revealed by this site yesterday.

A Chelsea source has told Football Insider the club have offered Arrizabalaga, 25, on loan in exchange for Donnarumma heading to Stamford Bridge in a loan-to-buy deal.  The London club would take Donnarumma for a season to sign him permanently next summer.  Chelsea’s latest attempt to structure a deal for the keeper they accept will be tough to prise from the seven-time Champions League winners.

However, in the Blues’ favor, Donnarumma has entered the final year of his contract at San Siro.  Chelsea has turned their attention to a new number one with, as Football Insider revealed last month, Frank Lampard having lost faith in Arrizabalaga.  Chelsea accepts the permanent deal sale of Arrizabalaga is problematic given his salary and dismal 2019-20 campaign.

Talks have taken place with Rennes over a deal for Mendy, but Rennes want up to £45m for their number one, and Chelsea is only willing to pay £22m.  Donnarumma is widely regarded as the outstanding young keeper in world football.  He has already amassed over 200 appearances for Milan in all competitions and represents the Italy national side on 16 occasions.  In other Chelsea news, Frank Lampard has told N’Golo Kante to find a new club.
