Sabail FC ex-player: Don’t regret for going to Azerbaijan

Baku. 8 January. REPORT.AZ/ "I returned so quick because they liked me here. The head coach Radu Birlika has called and asked me to return. Everybody was looking for me here. Otherwise, I would not return."

Report informs Alexandru Popovici, who left Sabail in winter break and returned to his former Romanian team Poli Timișoara told the prosport.ro portal.

Romanian forward said there were several reasons for his return to his motherland. He said the decisive role played getting lon-term offer from Poli Timişoara:

“The salary was high there and paid on time. I still had 5-month contract with Sabail club. Sustainability is important for me. I signed 2.5-year contract with Poli Timişoara. I had many reasons to return here and it is one of the. On the contract with Sabail I had paragraph that entitled me to go if I receive offer. They could also terminate the agreement if remained dissatisfied with me. Now I have signed a new contract and don’t want to go back. As in previous season I target to score at least six goals.”

During his career, 30-year-old footballer who became legionary for the first time in his life said that it was good experience for him.

Popovici said he does not regret for transferring to Sabail: “During my career I wanted to test myself abroad. It was successful season for me. They really wanted me there. I don’t regret for going to Azerbaijan. I felt myself very well and played on a lot of matches. We had a number of successful achievements. It was different but useful experience for me.”

Notably, Alexandru Popovici has signed one-year contract with debutant of Azerbaijan Premier League Sabail club last August. But during the winter break the contract was terminated based on the mutual agreement. In current season he scored two goals in 11 games.
