The COVID-19 pandemic put the current campaign on an indefinite pause in early March, but the country's prime minister Pedro Sanchez has confirmed that the season can be resumed from the second week of the summer.
"Spain has done what it should, and now new horizons are opening for everyone," he said, as Marca quoted.
"The time has come to bring back many day-to-day activities. From June 8, La Liga will be back."
Earlier this week, Cadena Cope leaked La Liga's plan to restart the season with the Seville derby between Sevilla and Real Betis on Friday, June 12. The restart could also be delayed until June 19, as per some reports in Spain. The matches will take place behind closed doors. The exact day of the resumption, however, is yet to be known. La Liga president Javier Tebas expected to confirm it in the coming days.
