Rival of Azerbaijani national team will not appeal fine for wearing poppies

Baku. 22 December. REPORT.AZ/ Irish Football Association (IFA) will not appeal a penalty by FIFA.

Report informs, the decision was made at the meeting.

IFA holds negotiations with FIFA for wearing and displaying poppies during the 2018 World Cup qualifier against Scotland and tries to determine the scope of the rules.

Even though the IFA was fined OF 14 000 EUR. IFA will pay the fine, but also write a letter to the president of FIFA to clarify the issue.

The chairman of FIFA disciplinary committee, Claudio Sulser said rules need to be applied in a neutral and fair manner across FIFA's 211 member associations, the display, among others, of any political or religious symbol is strictly prohibited. In the stadium and on the pitch, there is only room for sport, nothing else.
