FIFA set to agree to increase subs per match

The forthcoming changes to football have been well discussed, from the transfer market right through to changes in the structure of training sessions. Yet, even more differences to the game are coming, with FIFA set to agree to a move that will permit five substitutions per match, Report says citing Marca.

FIFA is currently preparing a document with medical recommendations that will be made official in the coming days.

However, to avoid constant periods of changes like what we see in international friendly matches, these substitutions will only be allowed to be carried out at three specific points in a game.

The proposal has to been greenlit by the Football Association Board (IFAB), football's rule-making body before it is implemented.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed football, perhaps forever, and the measures are underway to ensure the health of every professional and staff member involved in the return to action will be stringent.

Earlier, the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) also applied to FIFA for consent to hold the 4th substitution in the Azerbaijan Premier League matches.

The Azerbaijani Premier League was suspended on March 13 due to the coronavirus pandemic. The PFL has previously announced that if the country lifts the quarantine regime on May 4, Division I will be restored on May 21 and the Premier League on May 23. However, the extension of the quarantine until May 31 allowed the ban on football to remain in force.
