Decision of Azerbaijani referee on European Championship qualifier creates discontent - VIDEO

Baku. 14 November. REPORT.AZ/ Azerbaijani FIFA referee Aliyar Aghayev’s officiating the U-21 football match in the qualification group of European Championship caused the discontent.

Report informs referring to the transfermarkt.at, head coach of Austrian national team Werner Gregoritsch and team’s captain Konrad Laimer that lost to Serbia with a score 1:3, claim that the referee made a mistake that affected outcome of the game.

They said that Aghayev gave a wrong penalty against Austrians in the 86th minute of the match when score was 1:1.

Gregoritsch said the referee made a mistake by showing the 11-meter spot. “In that episode there was no foul. Similar situation occurred also on the match with Russia. Two penalties in important games. Such cases often happen in football.”

The captain who caused the penalty said it’s hard to lose in such game. Laimer added that though he touched the ball between the rival’s legs the referee registered it as foul.

Despite the discontent of Austrians, while watching the video replay of the match it’s clear that Aghayev didn’t make a mistake in penalty episode.

Laimer played rude against Saša Lukić in the penalty area and Azerbaijani FIFA referee rightly showed the 11-meter spot.

Serbian national team is a leader of the group with 12 points. Austrian team is on the fourth place with six points.

On the match that took place on November 10, the score was opened in the 31st minute by Aleksandar Lutovac. Though Konrad Laimer equalized the score in the 80th minute of the match, seven minutes later Luka Jović shot a penalty kick. During the extra time of the 90 minute Luka Ilić scored the final goal - 3:1.

The assistant referees on this match were Zeynal Zeynalov and Rza Mammadov. The duty of linesman was performed by Orhan Mammadov.
