Andrea Pirlo becomes the highest paid soccer player

Baku. 8 July. REPORT.AZ/ New York City midfielder Andrea Pirlo has become Major League Soccer’s highest paid player following his arrival from Juventus.

Report informs referring to ESPN, the Italian international will make a whopping $8million (£5.175m) during his time in America – more than Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and David Villa.

English duo Lampard and Gerrard are earning in the region of $6m (£3.9m) following their moves from the Premier League this summer, as is Villa who joined New York City earlier this year.

All three big-name players are earning more than some MLS club’s whole wage bills put together, however reports in Mexico claim the trio could soon be gazumped by Giovani dos Santos.

The Mexican international is reportedly being lined up for a move by current MLS Cup holders LA Galaxy as they look to splash the cash yet again.
