AFFA comments on allegations of nationalization of Spanish footballer

AFFA has commented on the allegations that they intend to nationalize Qarabag’s footballer Míchel Madera.

Head of AFFA's Press and Public Relations Service Firuz Abdulla told Report that they do not have such issue on AFFA’s agenda. He said that the news spread in Spanish press on this issue is groundless: "Míchel can comply with one of the legal requirements for citizenship in Azerbaijan. This is 5 years’ residence in Azerbaijan. However, the Spanish footballer has been playing in our country since 2015. So, it is impossible for present. On the other hand, it is necessary to have head coach's request and the players’ consent to nationalize any player. Only then AFFA can begin legal procedures for obtaining citizenship. Now the issue is not a matter of discussion. "

Notably, Míchel has been playing in Qarabag since September 2015. The 34-year-old Spanish midfielder has recently extended his contract with Aghdam for two years.
