WB extends technical support project for tax reform in Azerbaijan

The World Bank’s Global Tax Program Donors Steering Committee has held an online meeting on a semi-annual basis, Report informs referring to the State Tax Service under the Azerbaijani Economy Ministry.

The program helps countries strengthen their tax systems through evidence-based, comprehensive and consistent reform programs at the global, regional and national levels. The agenda of the meeting consisted of a discussion of the current status of projects implemented under the program and the work done.

At the meeting, representatives of Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan shared successful experiences of cooperation with the World Bank on the basis of projects.

Samira Musayeva, deputy head of the State Tax Service under the Economy Ministry, has informed about the “Technical Assistance Project for Tax Reforms in Azerbaijan” successfully implemented since 2018 jointly with the World Bank. She noted that the participation of foreign experts, as well as employees of the State Tax Service in the preparation of the report was effective.

It was noted that the project, which is scheduled for completion in May 2020, has been extended by mutual agreement. Highly appreciating this, Musayeva noted that the State Tax Service has benefited from this project, and tax administration is constantly improving through tax reforms.

The meeting was attended by donors of the World Bank’s Global Tax Program, the World Bank’s management and executive team, as well as the Operations Team involved in the implementation of technical assistance projects. The event was also attended by representatives of the International Monetary Fund and the United Nations.
