Pound strengthens after Brexit news

Baku. 8 December. REPORT.AZ/ The European Commission reported on reaching an agreement with UK on three key points of the first phase of negotiations on Brexit.

This is a border issue between Ireland and Northern Ireland, the rights of EU citizens in Britain, as well as the issue of payments by London for secession from the EU. The European Commission recommended European Council to approve these agreements and move to the second stage of the talks.

The report does not specify the exact amount of payment agreed by the European Commission and London for Brexit. If the European Council approves the agreements mentioned above, the negotiators from the European Commission and the British government will begin preparing an agreement on the withdrawal of the kingdom from the EU on the basis of Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty and results of the talks.

The official withdrawal of Great Britain from the European Union is scheduled for March 29, 2019.
