Uzbekistan to build large gas-chemical plant

A large gas-chemical complex based on modern MTO (from methanol to olefin) technology will be built in the Bukhara region of Uzbekistan.

Report says, citing foreign media, Jizzakh Petroleum, a joint venture between Uzbekneftegaz and Gazprom's subsidiary GPD (Gas Project Development Central Asia), has been selected as the general investor in the project. It is planned to produce 500,000 tons of high-quality polymers, including low-density polyethylene (LDPE), ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), polyethylene terephthalate (PET), polypropylene (PP) with the processing of 1.5 billion local natural gas.

According to Jizzakh Petroleum, the construction of the plant will cost a total of $ 2.8 billion. The project, first officially announced in May last year, is part of a plan to diversify the Uzbek economy, develop local industry and reduce imports, and produce high-value export-oriented products.
