Turkmenistan could export green energy via Trans-Caspian corridor

Turkmenistan could export its green energy through the Trans-Caspian Green Energy Corridor, Azerbaijani Deputy Energy Minister Orkhan Zeynalov said.

According to Report, Zeynalov made the remarks at the Second Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF 2026) in Baku.

He said the region was effectively undergoing tectonic changes.

"For the first time in history, Azerbaijan has become a special guest at the meeting of the C5+ energy ministers of Central Asian countries and a member of the Consultative Council, effectively turning the C5 format into C6," Zeynalov said.

He noted that this would make it possible to consider broader energy connectivity, projects, cross-border transmission initiatives and partnerships with Central Asian states.

"For the first time in history, we are building a bridge between Central Asia and Azerbaijan. We are talking about the Trans-Caspian Green Energy Corridor. Even during the Soviet era, there was no such connection between the energy systems of Central Asia and Azerbaijan," he said.

Zeynalov added that the corridor could also help revive other projects that had remained stalled for a long time.

He cited potential transit from Kazakhstan as an example, noting that progress had been made and work was underway at the consortium level.

"In addition, the potential transit of Turkmenistan"s green resources could be part of this. I think this electricity transmission project can open the doors between these two important regions - Azerbaijan and Central Asia," he said.
