Spain will offer to export gas to Europe via two gas pipelines across the Pyrenees and use the logistics capabilities of its gas system to avoid the need to cut gas consumption, the country's Ministry for Ecological Transition said.
Earlier it was reported that the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Ecological Transition of Spain, Teresa Ribera, announced Spain's disagreement with the initiative of the European Commission. According to the EC plan, EU member states must reduce gas demand by 15% from August 1, 2022, to March 31, 2023.
"In particular, Spain proposes to export 6.7 terawatt-hours of gas per month (69.3 thousand cubic meters), which is three times the average over the past five years, which Brussels takes as a basis for establishing a demand reduction of 15%", the message says.
Spain will announce its proposal on Tuesday at a meeting of EU energy ministers.
