SOCAR to hold environmental conference in Baku

An international environmental conference on “Decarbonization and transition to new energy,” organized by the Caspian Environmental Protection Initiative (CEPI), with the support of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), will be held on March 16.

Report informs, citing SOCAR, that the conference will aim to reduce the impact of climate change on the environment and promote environmental safety on a global scale.

The event, along with representatives of state structures of Azerbaijan, will be attended by members of the House of Lords of the United Kingdom, several embassies operating in Baku, as well as representatives of the UN Development Program, the World Bank, BP, KazMunayGas, Total E&P Absheron BV, Equinor, Rosneft, Lukoil, as well as representatives of domestic and foreign research institutions, financial institutions, diplomatic corps, and the media.

The conference will include introductory presentations on the problems caused by global climate change and projects implemented by oil and gas companies in this direction.

CEPI started its activities on September 14, 2020 with the signing of a memorandum of understanding on the creation of the “Caspian Environmental Protection Initiative” between SOCAR, KazMunayGas, Total E&P Absheron B.V and Equinor Absheron AS in Baku.
