Serbia advances gas plant project with SOCAR

A joint venture is planned to implement a gas-fired power plant project near the Serbian city of Niš, Report informs, citing the Serbian Ministry of Mining and Energy.

The issue was discussed at a meeting between Serbia's Mining and Energy Minister Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic and a delegation from SOCAR.

The Azerbaijani delegation also held a series of technical-level meetings with representatives of Elektroprivreda Srbije and Srbijagas, as well as the ministry.

The parties hope to fully agree on contract terms by early May, the ministry said, adding that discussions focused on the commercial and technical conditions of the project.

The document will define the shares and obligations of the partners - Elektroprivreda Srbije, Srbijagas and SOCAR.

According to the ministry, the gas power plant is one of the key energy projects outlined in Serbia's strategic documents and is expected to create additional baseload capacity in the country's electricity system, particularly strengthening energy supply for industry in southern regions.

The plant is scheduled to be commissioned by 2030, with planned capacity of around 500 megawatts of electricity and 150 megawatts of heat.
