Sandu says Moldova no longer dependent on Russian gas

For the first time in history, Moldova ceased to depend on a single importer of natural gas, President Maia Sandu said at the 10th session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly with the participation of parliamentarians from the Eastern Partnership countries and the European Union.

"For the first time in history, Moldova no longer depends on one source of natural gas reserves," she said.

Sandu recalled that in 2022 the country faced an acute economic crisis. Against this background, the Moldovan government and Western countries provided all kinds of financial support.

According to the President of Moldova, the difficulties faced by the country's residents are caused, among other things, by the situation in Ukraine.

Moldova is experiencing an energy crisis due to soaring energy prices. In December last year, Chisinau returned to purchasing electricity from the Moldova hydroelectric power station, owned by the Russian company Inter RAO, with which it suspended commercial relations on November 1.
