Renewable energy to make up nearly 50% of global energy by 2040

Global electricity production is forecasted to reach 38.7 billion MWh in 2040, up 45.4% from last year, International energy Agency said in World Energy Outlook 2019, Report informs.

According to the outlook, the demand for global electricity will be 34.5 billion MWh in 2040, up 50% from 2018.

Asia-Pacific region will rank first with 18 billion MWh demand for global electricity, North America – second with 5.6 billion MWh.

In the reporting period, renewable energy production will be 26 billion MWh, 50% of total energy production.

Wind and solar power plants will produce 15.5 billion MWh, hydro power plants – 6.9 billion MWh.
