Remaining reserves in Oil Rocks field estimated at 210 million tonnes

Currently, the remaining oil in Oil Rocks Field is estimated at 210 million tonnes, while extractable reserves are close to 18-20 million tonnes, Ibrahim Ahmadov, deputy head of the SOCAR public relations and events department, said at the media-tour to Oil Rocks’.

He noted that nearly 2,000 wells were drilled, nearly 200 km of pier, 333 production areas, 100 kilometers of oil, gas and water pipes were constructed during 70 years: "7.6 million tonnes of oil were produced in 1967 constituting the third part of overall production. Totally, 186 million tonnes of oil and 14.3 billion cubic meters of gas have been extracted from ‘Oil Rocks’ by  theOil and Gas Extraction Department. The Department met 13% of country’s oil production."

Ahmadov said that drilling of 10 wells with 10 tonnes per day for each have been projected in an area No. 331: "Drilling of the first well started in May 2019 and 4 wells have already been drilled. Daily output from these wells is 48 tonnes. Drilling work in the 5th well is underway."

Despite being exploited for a long time, the share of oil water makes up 35% during production from Oil Rocks, which is considered a good result for such an old field. As a result of measures taken, oil production by the Department increased by 20% in the past 25 years to exceed 1 million tonnes in 2018. The Department extracted 790,000 tonnes of oil and 72 million cubic meters of gas in nine months of 2019."
