The presidents of Russia Vladimir Putin, Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev took part in the solemn ceremony of launching Russian gas supplies to these two countries, Report informs referring to TASS.

Putin previously drew attention to the fact that never before had Russian-made gas been sent to Central Asia. Now “blue fuel” from the Russian Federation will arrive in Uzbekistan in transit through Kazakhstan, while part of it will also be supplied to Kazakhstan.

According to the Russian president, this is a mutually beneficial project that is designed to strengthen the energy security of the entire region.

In June of this year, Gazprom and the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan signed a contract for the supply of Russian gas and a roadmap for preparing the country’s gas transportation system for its acceptance and transportation. In addition, Gazprom and QazaqGaz entered into an agreement to transport Russian gas through the territory of Kazakhstan for consumers in Uzbekistan.

The volume of supplies under the two-year contract between Uzgastrade and Gazprom Export will amount to 2.8 billion cubic meters of gas per year, or 9 million cubic meters per day.
