OPEC's anniversary event postponed due to COVID-19

On the occasion of OPEC's 60th anniversary, the ceremony scheduled for this month in Baghdad have been postponed, Report informs.

In a letter to OPEC Secretary-General Mohamed Barkindo, Iraqi Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul Jabbar Ismail expressed regret: "Health and security are extremely important."

The Barkindo thanked the Iraqi side for its "noble initiative" to host a "diamond anniversary" event at the Al Shaab Palace in the Bab al-Muhamdam district of Baghdad:

"Unfortunately, we cannot celebrate OPEC's "diamond anniversary" in September, at the venue of the historic Baghdad Conference on September 10-14, 1960. At this event, a landmark meeting in all senses, the founding members created a far-sighted organization with a shared vision and intelligence. This organization grew in size and influence and became a well-known body of the world energy community."

In 1960, OPEC was established in Baghdad by its founding members, including Iran, Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela. At present, the organization has 13 member countries.
