Head of TotalEnergies says decline in oil demand by 2030 unlikely

The head of the French energy company TotalEnergies, Patrick Pouyanne, believes that plans to reduce the consumption of petroleum products by a third by 2030 are unrealistic, Report informs referring to TASS.

He made the remark on May 25 during a meeting of shareholders in Paris, commenting on the forecasts of the International Energy Agency (IEA).

“We cannot agree with the IEA scenario. The decline in demand for oil and gas will not be linear, this figure will not drop to 30% over the next ten years,” Pouyanne said, quoted by AFP. “Of course, we must act to achieve our goals, in particular by offering more charging stations for electric vehicles, but I absolutely do not believe in a drop in demand for petroleum products by 2030.”

On May 25, the Salle Pleyel (concert hall), located in the seventh arrondissement of the French capital, hosted the annual meeting of shareholders of TotalEnergies. Demanding the abandonment of projects using fossil fuels, activists from the international environmental organization Greenpeace organized a picket in front of the concert hall and tried to block the entrance to it. They also called on TotalEnergies to completely stop working on the Russian market.
