Azerbaijan sees surge in electricity production

Electricity production in Azerbaijan amounted to 2,194.4 million kWh, exports to 158.8 million kWh, imports to 10.1 million kWh in February 2021, Report informs referring to the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry.

From January through February 2021, electricity production in the republic amounted to 4,560.8 million kWh. During the reporting period, electricity generation at thermal power plants (TPPs) decreased by 125.7 million kWh reaching 4,364.2 million kWh, at hydropower plants (HPPs) increased by 13.8 million kWh reaching 140.7 million kWh, and at other sources (wind power plants, solar power plants and solid household waste incineration plant) amounted to 55.9 million kWh in comparison with January-February last year. 15.07 million kWh of electricity was generated at WPPs, 5.5 million kWh at SPPs, and 35.34 million kWh at the solid household waste incineration plant.

From January through February 2021, electricity generation made up 4,121.2 million kWh on Azerenergy OJSC ( 3,993.3 million kWh at TPPs, 127.9 million kWh at HPPs), 54.1 million kWh on State Energy Agency of Nakhchivan AR (37.9 million kWh at TPPs, 11.1 million kWh at HPPs, 5.1 million kWh at SPP), 374.7 million kWh on independent power plants and 10.79 million kWh at WPPs on Azerishig OJSC.

During the reporting period, electricity imports amounted to 21.1 million kWh. 5.8 million kWh was imported from Iran, 15.3 million kWh from Russia, 0.02 million kWh electricity from Georgia.

During this period, electricity exports increased by 6.2 million kWh compared to the same period last year, amounting to 333.9 million kWh. This is while 5.9 million kWh electricity was exported to Iran, 12.7 million kWh to Turkey, 14.7 million kWh to Russia, 300.6 million kWh to Georgia.
