Azerbaijan sees growth in energy export

In January-March 2020, Azerbaijan exported 374.63 million kWh energy worth $17.85 million, up 2.3-fold from the previous year, Report informs, citing the State Customs Committee (SCC).

Energy export constituted 0.42% of Azerbaijan’s total export, 4.0% in the export in the non-oil sector, while these figures were 0.55% and 6% in the first two months of 2020.

The above mentioned figures are the same as the figures for January-February. The SCC did not release the indicators for March.

The Committee told Report that the customs statistics data are formed on the basis of customs declarations on goods, of which formalization was completed in the reporting period. As the formalization of electricity export in March 2020 has not been completed, these figures have not been reflected in the customs statistics. They will be reflected in the statistics of April.

In recent years, Azerbaijan has turned from an electricity importing country into an electricity exporter. Azerbaijan, which has been exporting electricity to neighboring countries for a long time, has already begun exporting energy to European countries.

Over the past 15 years, Azerbaijan has created about 3,000 MW of new generating capacities. Numerous power plants have been built, and thus, Azerbaijan has become one of the leading countries in the world in this direction.
