Gurban Yetirmishli: More than 60 aftershocks recorded in earthquake zone in Lerik

Baku. 29 August. REPORT.AZ/ After the strong earthquake occurred in Lerik yesterday, 3.7 and 3.8-magnitude quakes were recorded. At the same time, there have been more than 60 aftershocks in the earthquake zone till morning of August 29, Gurban Yetirmishli, head of the Republican Seismological Service Center under the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) told Report.

According to him, occurrence of the quakes is related to discharge of energy in those zones.

Yetirmishli noted that first quakes did not cause great debris: ‘We have dealt with the issue. Our employee visited the scene. Researches will be conducted in order to identify which areas the quakes cover’.

He also noted that the general situation in the country is normal: ‘Weak quakes are possible during the day. But, there is nothing dangerous’.
