Baku. 16 January. REPORT.AZ/ "A warning about the extremely dangerous hydrometeorological event expected in Azerbaijan on January 17 is due to a very strong wind," Deputy Director of the National Hydrometeorology Department of Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources Umayra Tagiyeva told Report.

She said that forecasts and warnings in Azerbaijan as a member of the World Metrology Organization, are in line with the criteria adopted in the world practice: “The criterion describing the extreme hazardous hydrometeorological event for tomorrow is the maximum speed of the wind at 30 and more per second. It will happen within the Caspian Sea Basin. The height of the wave at 6-8 meters or more is considered to be an extremely hazardous hydrometrological event."

According to the director, the expected wind speed in Azerbaijan tomorrow will be much greater in the Caspian Sea Basin: "Strong wind with 30 meters per second is expected in Absheron peninsula. This is considered a very strong wind for peninsula. Dry trees can break down. Population should be careful tomorrow. Older people are advised to stay home, parents should not leave their children unattended. "

Taghiyeva said that the extremely dangerous hydrometeorological event will be observed in the regions as well. Plenty of precipitation and snow are predicted: "Temperature will drop sharply."
