Babayev: Successful hosting of COP29 strengthened Azerbaijan's commitment to practical climate action

The successful hosting of COP29 in Baku in 2024 further strengthened Azerbaijan's commitment to practical climate action and international cooperation, Mukhtar Babayev, the Presidential Envoy for Climate Affairs, said in a video address at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.

He noted that discussions at COP29 highlighted the growing importance of implementing concrete measures, resilience, climate finance, and deeper integration of sustainable development principles into public policy.

"We (Azerbaijan – ed.) believe that stronger sustainability standards can support this transition. They can stimulate the creation of more resilient infrastructure, increased resource efficiency, the development of a circular economy, environmentally friendly urban planning, and more responsible production and consumption patterns. It's important to understand that sustainable development shouldn't be perceived as an additional burden. It should be viewed as an investment in long-term sustainability, economic efficiency, and human well-being," he said.
