Another bison cub born in Azerbaijan’s Shahdag National Park

A pair of bison brought to Azerbaijan within the reintroduction project of this species of animals, implemented by the IDEA Public Association, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources and the Azerbaijani office of WWF, has given birth to another cub, representative of the Ministry’s Biodiversity Protection Service Arzu Babayeva said, Report informs.

She noted that the number of bison cubs has reached five: “The cubs born so far have been males, the fifth is a female. This will make a positive contribution to the increase in the number of animals. The cub is healthy, has been adapted to local conditions and joined the herd.”

The representative of the service added that in accordance with the cooperation agreement between the IDEA Public Association and the Shahdag National Park, in order to restore the population of extinct bison, reintroduce them into Azerbaijan’s nature and increase the number of livestock, since May 2019, on the territory of the Ismayilli branch of the Shahdag National Park, 12 heads of bison were imported from Europe and released into nature, and five more bison were brought in 2020.
