A program is currently being developed in Azerbaijan to organize archaeological excavations in Shusha and Khankandi, starting with preliminary exploration works, Director of the Institute of Archaeology and Anthropology, Farhad Guliyev, stated during the opening ceremony of the 2026 Archaeological and Anthropological Field Research Season.
He noted that an archaeological expedition is being formed for Shusha and Khankandi: "One of the factors delaying expedition processes in the liberated territories is the presence of numerous mines. In addition, the necessary infrastructure is lacking in these regions. We are now engaging in international cooperation, and our work in this direction will continue."
