Jeyhun Bayramov meets with President of UN General Assembly

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with the president of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) Abdulla Shahid, Report informs referring to the Foreign Ministry's press service.

The parties exchanged views on Azerbaijan's activities within the UN, cooperation with specialized agencies of the international organization, future activities, and other issues on the agenda, according to the information.

Welcoming the guest, Minister Jeyhun Bayramov noted that the visit of the UN General Assembly President to Azerbaijan has become a tradition. He stressed that the visit coincided with the 30th anniversary of Azerbaijan's membership in the UN. The minister congratulated Abdulla Shahid on his successful presidency of the UN General Assembly at a time when the world is going through a very difficult period.

UN President Abdulla Shahid noted that Azerbaijan is one of the most active member states of the United Nations and congratulated on the 30th anniversary of UN membership. The chairman praised the successful chairmanship of Azerbaijan in the Non-Aligned Movement. He thanked the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for his leadership in multilateralism. The GA President praised the initiatives of the President of Azerbaijan against the COVID-19 pandemic. Shahid praised the work done in Azerbaijan at the national level, as well as in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The parties exchanged views on priority issues of the BA presidency, including work with youth, climate change, gender equality, and other topics.

Minister Bayramov briefed the UNGA chairman on the current situation in the region, including the restoration and construction work in the liberated territories, demining, as well as the steps taken by Azerbaijan to normalize relations with Armenia. He said Azerbaijan would continue its efforts in all important areas to ensure peace and stability in the region, including the signing of a future peace agreement, delimitation of borders, the opening of all communications, and other issues.

UN General Assembly president Abdulla Shahid praised Azerbaijan's efforts to build lasting peace in the region.

The parties also discussed other issues of mutual interest on the UN agenda.
